e-Disclosure Commentary - the Blog

My Blog covers a wide range of subjects which bear in some way on
e-Disclosure / e-Discovery. Geographically, it covers the UK and the other
jurisdictions which require discovery of documents; the US is inevitably a
source of much of it.
It covers rules and practice, cases and technology. Much of it is anecdotal,
in that I write about where I have been and what I have been doing with some
e-Discovery connection, such as attending conferences in the UK and abroad.
That connection is sometimes a tenuous one, depending on some personal
experience or on a parallel which can be drawn from elsewhere.
I rarely regurgitate press releases, although they may inform something I
choose to write about. I do not do instant journalism - if something is
worth writing about it, will keep until I have time to do it properly. I
have a little time for words like "unique" and "revolutionary" when
applied to software or anything else, and am more interested in the benefits
of the technology than in its functions. Technology and process are not ends
in themselves but servants to commercial and legal objectives.
Much legal technology marketing manages simultaneously to pass over the
heads of its intended audience and to insult its intelligence - a remarkable
double. There is certainly a place for snappy slogans and bullet-points and
all those rather trite rules which marketing theory lives by, but a legal
audience has a higher concentration of intelligence than almost any on
earth, and can cope with having to think about what it reads.
